Day 4

<< Prev | Next >>

Day four was a busy one as the list of things to do is still long and the week is drawing to an end. Today we fit and colored the ¼ windows, masked off and installed the stand offs in the joggles of the ¼ windows. The leading edge fuselage was puttied with fairing filler and then sanded to shape after it cured. The aft junction of the top deck was also puttied and sanded after cure. The strakes were glassed together and the ribs were glued in. The side upper and lower cage attach brackets (fabricated and corrosion proofed in the prior two days) were bedded in a qcell/resin mixture. The door joggles were trimmed back and the door seal was installed on the pilot and co-pilot doors in preparation for door fitting and hinge mounting. The horizontal bracket was mounted and then the horizontal stabilizer was fit and set to the desired nose down angle. Upon mounting the horizontal bracket to the bulkhead, it was determined that bulkhead D was originally installed at a slight angle which would require a series of glass layers applied to the face of the bulkhead. This would allow the bracket and mounted horizontal to rest closer to parallel with the wings. The glass work would be done in the days to come.
